The Patriot
IN THE PATRIOT THE SPIRIT OF THE EARTH IS REVEALED, AS IS THE POWER OF THE SOIL FROM WHICH THE GRAPES ARE CULTIVATED
When winegrower Josef Tesch and hotelier Erwin Fender got to know one another in 2007 they quickly came up with the idea of expressing their joint passion for exquisite wines and their deep attachment to the Burgenland terroir with one special wine. This common belief was to be made palpable, in liquid form in a very special fine wine – made using 100 % Blaufränkisch grapes.
The Patriot is a wine to stand the test of time, as its name suggests and it reflects the character of our terroir. From this harmonious interplay of nature and man results a wine full of body, personality and essence.
Blaufränkisch grapes used for the Patriot come from 40 – 60 year-old vines which – deeply rooted in the weathered crystalline slate – transports key nutrients to the grapes, which gives them their unique aroma. Harvesting is done by hand. After the open, controlled must fermentation the Patriot is cultivated in French oak vessels. In the 225 litre oak barrel vessel we leave it to mature for 30 to 36 months, with optimum air exchange to develop its complexity and dense composition.
On request the „Patriot“ is also available in large bottles: 3 l/6 l/9 l/12 l
